True Pocket 9mm - The term refers to small, semi-automatic handguns that have a barrel of three inches or less and a standard capacity of less than nine rounds, including the chamber, usually less.
These small guns are popular and for good reason. They are simple and easy to assemble. While it is placed in a pants or jacket pocket it is not without its drawbacks, with serious safety risks, it is easy if the gun is in the pocket with other things and / or not in the holster.
True Pocket 9mm
Here are five models of so-called pocket guns that I have owned or tested and that I can confidently recommend:
True Precision Sig P365 Xl Non Threaded Copper Barrel Tp P365xlb Xc
Ruger LCR. The frame of this double-action single revolver is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum. The light control unit is polymer to reduce weight and the cylinder is stainless steel. Rubber is the standard. The new models have a white insert for forward visibility; however, I have seen this small asset more than one LCR. A little enamel does the same.
The best thing about LCR is the choice of gauges. It is available in 22LR, 22WMR (eight-round capacity) and 38 special five-shot, rated + P. Upgrade to the powerful series and options include 357 magnum, 327 magnum combination, and 9mm Luger.
LCR prices vary widely depending on options, such as lasers and gauges. There are currently new models for sale ranging from $100 to $800. These can be a good option for someone new to concealed carry who wants to try a spin without making a big financial commitment.
Glock 42. This is a .380 caliber made by a company that has a reputation for firearms. These smaller Glocks share the same basic features and exterior design as their full-sized brothers. The fact that his magazines lasted only six rounds made him wonder. This is a gun I regularly carry myself, and I find it easy to slip an extra magazine into the front pocket of any holster.
Tp9 Elite Sub Compact
This is the first gun for which Streamlight has produced the TLR-6 laser combo. Since the 42 does not have a rail, the mechanism is jammed and then screwed to the front of the trigger guard. This upgrade, along with a set of tritium night sights, has created what is, to me, a hidden weapon. Although I would like to own a large caliber, I have yet to find a large caliber that matches the small 380's comfort but gun power.
The average market price for the 42 is low to mid $400. The best deals can be found if one hunts for them. With the included accessories, it's close to a $600 package.
Beretta Nano. Probably the newest weapon on this list, followed by the Glock. The six-plus-one 9mm Power is one of the few gun concept designs that has made it into the pocket gun market. A simple anti-shock system and a slim profile with all corners and rounded edges give the Nano a modern look and also contribute to a ride-free ride.
As with the Glock, the Nano has a retractable magazine release. Although it seems a little heavy, but the position of the birth is better than the shooter's arm line, its recoil is not worse than other ground balls of this caliber.

The Nano is loved by its owners for its style, reliability and size + P. At least some models have proven to be light-sensitive; experience with new industrial cartridges should avoid firearm-related malfunctions.
Modularity is good in today's gun industry, and Beretta designed the polymer grip and other aspects of the gun to be modular. The company has not yet offered any choice to the stock.
Expect to pay as much as $300 to $400 for a Nano, or if you want to wait for a used model.
Ruger LCP II. At the corporate level, Ruger has made a real effort to listen to customer feedback. Available exclusively in 380, the upgraded model of Ruger's popular LCP has several improvements over its predecessor. The causes are long, but not too heavy, cause it to stretch. The slide is open in the empty core. Levels of convoluted and unnecessary "safety" measures are passed, making the original LCP a real punishment for anyone familiar with the normal operation of a weapon.
Super Dependable Pocket Pistols You're Gonna Love
Although I got to test the LCP II briefly, I didn't check if it could dry out. Original cannot. This is bad for owners who want and need to practice dry shooting.
Ruger has improved the look of this small pistol and made it much easier and more fun to fire. It's one of the more economical choices on this list, and also one of the lightest at 10.6 ounces unloaded. Standard sets have six rounds. LCP II is a reliable choice for personal protection. At just $200, it's affordable for most people and jobs, just like the other 380.
Smith and Wesson Air Weight. These classic "J Frame" guns have been around for many years and there are many varieties on the market, new and used. For starters, there is a model without a hammer, and I call it a true pocket gun - there is no hammer in the pocket when shooting.
These five-round 38 Special, + P-rated revolvers are extremely easy to use and reliable, providing the shooter uses quality ammunition. Holsters for Airweight are available in both leather and Kydex, as it is a very popular choice for carrying or carrying on the hip and has been for years.
Smith & Wesson M&p Shield 9mm Compact Pistol Review
Compared in appearance and performance to the Ruger LCR, the Airweight has no polymer components. As such, it's a little heavier and more durable, a combination of factors that send some shooters reaching for the gun and others fleeing. It's a matter of choice.
Prices for hammerless S&W Airweight revolvers typically range from $300 to the mid $400s. As always, thanks to their high position in the market, there are many deviations from this norm.
Pocket pistols may seem like a great choice for beginners because they are small and unobtrusive. But some problems should be noted. For center fire chambers, the recoil is greater than for an average size rifle. The manipulation of the slide depends on the strength of the finger and the strength of the closed fist. The rosettes that hang under the short grip are too distracting for some shooters, and inserting and removing the magazine can be difficult if the magazine well is held in place by the palm. For these reasons, I always recommend that new shooters learn to pocket size on a large handgun before they "scale out". Vs. 9mm: Which Is Better?
Of course, part of the reason to get a barrel like this is for the looks. True Precision offers its barrels in a variety of colors, including black, blue, and rose red.
I am a fan of the "golden" look of TiN. However, what I'm not a fan of is the deep barrel.
The barrel grooves are designed to dissipate heat, just a personal preference I don't really like the grooved look. And many people who have seen my gun also comment on how they don't like the look of the deep barrel.
It is down to personal preference, but as far as the "gold" looks, I am definitely a fan.
The M&p Shield Experiment
The barrel isn't overly "shiny" but I might have wanted a fuller, almost mirror finish on the barrel.
The barrel seems to have more of a matte "washed" look than a glossy mirror finish, again I prefer a glossy barrel.
There are many production lines, rounds and shapes throughout this barrel of this barrel straight from the raw mill.
I would have liked if they put some polish and touch up on the barrel design. For a company called True Precision, it looks like they've hidden some nice details here.
Most Underrated Handguns [guide]
The first thing I noticed when I first picked up the barrel was the texture on the feed ramp. Ideally, you want the food ramp to be bright and shiny.
It's very annoying and I've had a few jams with this gun, not sure if it's due to the feed ramp or another issue as I don't have the controls to test. (He had no problem feeding with the Shield barrel.)
This textured pattern on the feed ramp is a real deal breaker for me and the reason I don't trust True Reference with this barrel.
It seems that more effort could have been put into the design of barrels that are labeled as "Compatible Level".
