Since 2019, Food Lion has partnered with Operation Homefront to fight food insecurity among military and veterans.
The Food Lion program provides several benefits to military and veterans, including family support during military deployments. In 2010, the Department of Defense awarded Food Lion the Employer Support of Guard and Reserves (ESGR) Freedom Award for its programs and services for military personnel.

Walgreens offered the same 20% discount May 27-30 in honor of Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, according to two company press releases.
"This offer is available to all veterans, active-duty military personnel and their family members." Veterans, active-duty military and their families are eligible for discounts, but must show a valid military ID, Beyer said.
